          The
AGM-86 ALCM (Air-Launched Cruise Missile) is a unmanned air
            vehicle carried by
            B-52 Stratofortress
bombers to strike distant ground targets.
Operational since 1982, the ACLM flies at low
altitudes along a preplanned route to avoid enemy radar.  The B
            model is nuclear capable.
The AGM-86A's first powered flight occurred on 5
March 1976.  They saw combat in the 1991 Persian Gulf War. |
