          The
757 was designed as a replacement for the 727.  It
features the same cross-section as the 727 with a longer fuselage,
an all new wing, nose and flightdeck and fuel efficient high bypass
            turbofan engines.
The 757 was developed in tandem with the widebody
767 so the two could share a number of systems and technologies
including a common flightdeck.  The first flight of the 757 was
            in 1982. |
