First flown in 1964, the Sea Stallion was developed for the U.S.
Marine Corps. It was designed to carry a 105mm howitzer or 38
combat-equipped troops. Production deliveries began in 1966.
Navy and Marine CH-53s were first known as Sea Stallions. The
enlarged CH-53E is known as the Super Stallion.
