The
Convair F-102 Delta Dagger was developed from the XF-92
delta-wing research aircraft. The U.S. Air Force requirement
called for an interceptor that could intercept projected Russian
intercontinental bombers. The prototype first flew in 1953.
A two-seat side-by-side trainer, the TF-102
was built retaining full operational capability. About 1,000
F-102 and TF-102 Delta Daggers were built.
An improved version, originally designated the F-102B,
was developed as the F-106 Delta Dart. |
