Chance Vought F4U Corsair

The prototype Corsair first flew on 29 May 1940 with production deliveries beginning in late 1942.  Because of perceived problems with carrier operations, the first Corsairs went to the Marines and land-based Navy squadrons.

The Chance Vought F4U was arguably the best naval fighter of WWII.  The Corsair also saw action as a ground support aircraft in Korea and in Indochina and Algeria with the French Aeronavale.
