North American designed a single-seat fighter variant of their
successful AT-6 Texan for export. Seven aircraft were delivered to
Peru in 1939. Another six were built for the Royal Thai air force
but were seized by the U.S. in route to Thailand when that nation fell to
Japan in 1941.
The Thai fighters entered USAAF service and were designated as the P-64.
These aircraft served as advanced
trainers.
