|
Designed
in 1937 to meet a U.S. Navy requirement for a replacement for the
PBY Catalina, the prototype PBM first flew in 1939. The
engines were mounted in large nacelles which included weapons bays
that could carry 2,000 lb (907 kg) of bombs or depth charges.
|
|
The Mariner saw service primarily in
air-sea rescue, ASW and transport roles. This aircraft was
flown by the Royal Australian Air Force, Argentina, the Netherlands
and Uruguay. |
