The
RQ-1 Predator was designed as a reconnaissance aircraft
capable of being remotely piloted from beyond visual range through a
satellite data link. First flown in 1994, the Predator has
proven its reconnaissance ability in Bosnia and other deployments.
With an endurance of up to 24 hours, the Predator has excellent
loiter capabilities.
In 2001, a Predator successfully test fired
a Hellfire anti-tank missile at a stationary target. Predators
have been used to hit ground targets in Afghanistan.
