The
German deployment of troop-carrying gliders in the invasion of
France impressed the U.S. Army and a crash-program was initiated to
develop the capability. The Schweizer SGS 2-8 civil
sailplane was purchased as the TG-2 to train glider pilots.
After the war, TG-2’s were much sought after as
they were light, rugged and all metal.
