Bristol F.2B "Bristol Fighter"
|
|
Initially
designed as a reconnaissance aircraft (the Type 9 or R.2), a more
powerful engine led to conversion to the fighter role and a new
designation, the Type 12 or F.2 "Bristol Fighter".
The F.2 entered service in 1917 with disastrous
results. After changing tactics to those of single seat
fighters, the "Brisfit" became an effective
fighter.
The Bristol Fighter remained in service with the
RAF as an Army cooperation aircraft until 1932. Other
operators included the air forces of Australia, Belgium, Canada,
Ireland, Greece, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Peru and Spain.
Over 5,000 were built. |
