The
TF30 was Pratt & Whitney's first afterburning
turbofan. Selected for the F-111, there were problems matching
the engine with the aircraft, specifically the inlet system.
The P-412 version for the F-14 required redesign and various fixes
eventually leading the aircraft to be re-engined with General
Electric F110 engines.
First flown in 1964, the TF30 was in production
through 1986.
