Rotax made engines for snowmobiles which were occasionally purchased for use in ultralights.  Today, Rotax is part of Bombardier and has sold over 100,000 aircraft engines.

History

1920: Rotax Werk AG is founded in Dresden.

1943: Operations moved to Austria.

1962: First Rotax engine is installed in a Ski-Doo snowmobile

1970: Bombardier acquires Rotax

1982: Rotax begins aircraft engine production
