| Based
on the successful turboprop Gulfstream I, Grumman introduced the
turbofan powered Gulfstream II in 1966.
NASA purchased the Gulfstream II to be modified as a aircraft to train shuttle pilots. It has been modified to simulate the flight characteristics of the Space Shuttle. Between 1966 and 1979, 258 of these large, long-range executive aircraft had be built. By the time production ended, the rights to the Gulfstream line had been sold to Gulfstream American. |
