The Swiss FFA P-16 fighter caught Bill Lear's attention as the basis for a twin-engined business jet.  He created the Swiss American Aviation Corp. in 1960 to develop the SAAC Lear 23 which first flew on 7 October 1963.

The Learjet 23 marked a new era in "bizjet" design.  With a thrust to-weight ratio of 1:2.2, this aircraft can outclimb an F-100 Super Sabre to 10,000 feet! (NASM)
