The Mudry CAP 231 has its ancestry in the CP.30 Emeraude of the early 1960s.  The CAP 230 first flew in 1985.  In 1990 a 230 was given an improved wing and designated the 231.

Since its introduction, the CAP 230/231 has been at the top of the heap in World Aerobatic Competitions.
