In 1943
Curtis Pitts built the first of a line of aircraft that dominated
aerobatic competition through the early 1980s. The S-1
was a minor type until Pitts began selling construction drawings in
the early 1960s.
When Pitts designed the two-seat S-2 in 1967, it
was only available factory-built by Aerotek of Ashton,
Wyoming.
Pitts sold out to Doyle Child in 1976 who formed Pitts
Aerobatics at the Aerotek site.
Pitts Aerobatics was sold to Christen
Industries in 1983.
In 1991, Christen Industries was bought by Aviat
Aircraft.
