Republic is famous for its fighter
            aircraft, specifically the P-47 Thunderbolt of
            World War II, the F-84 Thunderjet and Thunderstreak of the early
            Cold War and the F-105 Thunderchief of  Vietnam fame.
            History
            1931:
            Russian émigré Major Alexander de Seversky establishes Sevesky
            Aircraft.
            1939: After selling the 2PA fighter to
            Japan, the board of directors votes Seversky out of office and
            renames the company Republic Aviation.
            1945-48: Franklin Engines is owned by
            Republic.
            1965: Republic is acquired by Fairchild.
