Design of this two-seat, long-range all-weather fighter began in 1946 with the prototype CF-100 Mk 1 first flying in 1950.  The CF-100 was the first jet fighter completely designed and built in Canada.

The Mk 5 was the most produced variant with over 300 being built.  The last CF-100 was withdrawn from Canadian service in 1981.
