In 1945, Avro
Aviation Ltd was formed in Canada as part of the Hawker Siddeley
Group following acquisition of Victory Aircraft Ltd of Ontario.
One of the most significant products of Avro
Canada was the CF-100, the first aircraft to be completely
designed and built in Canada. Avro Canada also produced
aircraft engines including the Orenda and Iroquois. Avro Canada
did not survive the failed Avrocar "flying saucer" and
cancelled CF-105 Arrow. Avro Canada's gas turbine division
became Orenda Engines. |
