Designed
by Moulton "Molt" Taylor, the Aerocar was certified for
use both as an automobile and aircraft. The prototype Aerocar
I was completed in 1949 but not certified by the CAA until
1956. Both Ling-Temco-Vought and Ford
expressed interest but neither deal was completed.
It took about 15 minutes to transform from
automobile to aircraft. The Aerocar could either tow its wings
and tail as a trailer or leave them at the airport.
Developed in the 1960s, the Aerocar III was an
updated version of the Aerocar I. |
