The prototype Beech 90 King Air was a development of the Beech 80 Queen Air with turboprop engines.  An unpressurized version was sold to the US military as the U-21 Ute.  Electronic reconnaissance versions were designated the RU-21.  Other military versions include the VC-6 King Air VIP transport and the T-44 Pegasus multi-engine trainer.

The King Air family of aircraft has been very successful with over 3,000 having been delivered as early as 1981.
