Army/Air Force (1924 - 1962)
Trainer Glider: The German
deployment of troop-carrying gliders in the invasion of France impressed
the U.S. Army and a crash-program was initiated to develop the
capability. Initially, existing civilian sailplane designs were
purchased as trainers. Later, engine-less versions of liaison
aircraft were used.
