The
F119 was designed as the powerplant for the U.S. Air Force's
Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). It beat the General Electric
F120 jet engine in competition to power the F-22 Raptor.
To reduce maintenance P&W designed the engine
to use 40% fewer parts than then current engines. The F119 has
vectored thrust and is stealthy.
