Shvetsov
developed the license built Wright R-1820
Cyclone (M-25) into the M-62. This engine had a
two-stage supercharger and an improved induction system.
In 1941, the Soviet Union changed its aircraft and
engine designations to a constructor system. The M-62 was
redesignated the ASh-62. Including the related M-63,
over 67,000 were produced.
